NEW SOUTH WALES RECORDS 319 NEW COVID CASES

In the worst day of the pandemic so far, New South Wales has recorded 319 new COVID cases overnight.

This is from more than 108,000 tests.

Of these new cases, four are in the Newcastle, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 13.

Of those four, two are linked to known cases and the other two are under investigation.

The John Hunter hospital emergency department is now a venue of concern.

Anyone who visited the ED on Thursday, August 5 from 8.42pm through to Friday, August 6 at 1.50am is now considered a close contact, must get a test and isolate.

Two new cases also emerged in Armidale overnight, sending the LGA (which includes the city of Armidale and town of Guyra) into lockdown from 5pm until 12.01am on August 15.

The state has recorded five deaths.
