NEWCASTLE COMPANY FINED $24,000 FOR ILLEGAL DUMPING

A Newcastle business and its director have been fined thousands of dollars for illegally dumping 20 tonnes of building material in the Hunter.

In May, investigators from the Hunter/Central Coast Regional Illegal Dumping (RID) Squad inspected a rural property at Richmond Vale, near Kurri Kurri.

They found the material dumped in bushland, with some of the waste already burned.

A detailed examination of the waste revealed it came from recent demolitions of two separate houses, one in New Lambton and another in Kahibah.

The owners of the two houses had contracted to have the waste lawfully disposed of.

It was revealed Integrity Newcastle Pty Ltd, conducted both house demolitions through its business name, Integrity Tree and Demolition.

When interviewed, the Director of the company was unable to provide a reasonable explanation as to how the waste material came to be in bushland at Richmond Vale.

The company was issued two fines for illegal dumping of the building and demolition waste, totalling $16,000.

The sole Director of Integrity Newcastle Pty Ltd was also handed two fines in his own name, totalling a further $8,000.

One of the drivers used by the company to transport waste to the site was fined $4,000.

The company was issued an enforceable Clean Up Notice requiring the waste to be removed and taken to a waste facility.
