WALLSEND SCHOOL CLEANED AFTER INCIDENTAL CONTACT OF COVID-19 CASE

Macquarie College at Wallsend is activating its COVID-safe plan, after a junior school student was identified as an incidental contact of a known COVID-19 case.

New South Wales Health has advised the risk of transmission is extremely low, but the school has asked parents to collect their kids from the affected class, and for them to isolate until a negative result is received.

Staff in contact with the class cohort are also required to get a COVID test.

Siblings and other contacts are not deemed to be at risk by New South Wales Health and are therefore not required to isolate.

The incidental contact student and family have returned a negative test for COVID-19 but will isolate for 14 days.

The Year 2 classrooms will have a deep clean overnight and school will be on as usual for Year 2 students.

More tonight at six.
