NEWCASTLE REFEREE PETER COOKE REACHES 1000 GAMES

NSW Waratahs

Referees don’t tend to get too much attention, but there’s one local rugby ref who deserves some.

Peter Cooke blew the whistle on game 1000 on Saturday.

Incredibly, he’s NEVER missed a game through injury or any other reason…and has officiated every weekend of the rugby season for the last 49 years.

“I’m probably like Forrest Gump I just kept running and it sort of snuck up it was never a goal it just happened”

“Just really enjoyed rugby in Newcastle for all those years and just so lucky to have good people around and nice, mostly nice players to referee”
