PETITION AGAINST HOLDING ORIGIN THREE IN NEWCASTLE GAINS 15,000 SIGNATURES

More than 15,000 people have signed a petition against holding State of Origin’s final game at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium.

It’s not yet confirmed how many spectators will be allowed to attend the game, however organisers are preparing for 50 per cent capacity, which is around 15,000 people.

It comes after the Hunter’s top public health physician, Dr David Durrheim slammed the decision to hold the final game in Newcastle, calling it unwise.

“It would be wonderful to delay, postpone the game until a time when we are all free again and when there is no COVID circulating in our community.”

Local police and stadium officials reassured the community yesterday that every step is being taken to make sure it’s a COVID-19 safe event.
