$2 MILLION WORTH OF DRUGS FOUND IN TRUCK NEAR BYRON BAY

Police have seized more than $2 million worth of cannabis, heroin and methylamphetamine during a vehicle stop near Byron Bay yesterday.

About 8.30am, officers were conducting routine patrols on the Pacific Highway at Tyagarah, when they stopped a medium rigid truck due to the manner of driving.

Police approached the vehicle and spoke to the driver, a 20-year-old man.

When they checked the rear of the vehicle to ensure the load was properly secured, they allegedly located cannabis.

Officers searched the vehicle and say the found more than 180 kilograms of cannabis in vacuum sealed bags, 2.5 kilograms of methylamphetamine in plastic resealable bags and 816 grams of heroin in a compressed block, in the rear of the vehicle.

The man was arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug large commercial quantity and one count of supply prohibited drug commercial quantity.

The Cabramatta man was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court today, where he was formally bail refused to reappear at the same court on Friday 15 October.
