ABORIGINAL FLAG FLOWN IN NEWCASTLE CITY PD FOR THE FIRST TIME

Waratah Police Station today became the first station in the Newcastle City Police District to raise the Aboriginal Flag.

Police say it highlights the force’s ongoing commitment to foster positive relationships with the Aboriginal community.

Local officers and members of the community marked the occasion with a traditional Welcome to Country and performances from Callaghan College students.

NSW Police has set a target to fly the Aboriginal flag in all regional districts.

Only 4% of the state’s police stations permanently fly the Aboriginal flag.
