MAN CHARGED OVER TWO SERIOUS ASSAULTS IN THE HUNTER

A man has been charged with seriously hurting two men in the Hunter region.

Just before 9pm on Friday, a 23-year-old man pulled into the driveway of his Woodberry home, and was confronted by a man holding a baseball bat.

The resident was hit with the bat as he got out of his car.

He then ran inside his property, as the armed man allegedly damaged his car with the bat, and ran away.

The man suffered a broken elbow, and was treated at hospital.

In a separate incident, just after 3.30am on Saturday, a 24-year-old man was found at the railway overpass bridge at Beresfield with serious head injuries.

He was treated by paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Police started inquiries into both assaults, and arrested a 22-year-old man at a home on Fairfield Street, New Lambton about 2pm on Saturday.

He was taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with several offences.

He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court on Sunday, June 6.

The men are all known to each other.
