FIVE HORSES DIE IN HUNTER TRUCK CRASH

Five horses, which are believed to be from this weekend’s Magic Millions sale, have died in a horror truck crash in the Upper Hunter.

Emergency services were called to the Golden Highway, near Jerrys Plains, at around 6.30am to find the truck, carrying the thoroughbreds, had crashed into a tree.

The driver, a 62-year-old man, and a 59-year-old male passenger suffered serious injuries to the head, chest and legs.

Both were treated at the scene, before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

Inquiries into the crash continue.
