Hunter man, Shane Holmes has been jailed for at least four years and three months over the one-punch death of his mate, Chad Hadden.
Holmes struck Mr Hadden in the face in January 2018 on Newcastle Foreshore, after the pair had been drinking at Queens Wharf Hotel.
Mr Hadden died from his injuries five months later.
A jury convicted Holmes of manslaughter earlier this year following a two week trial.
