POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH AT GUNNEDAH

A struggle between police and a Gunnedah man is now the focus of an independent review.

At about 8pm, two officers arrived at a home on Herbert Street, after concerns about the behaviour of the 27-year-old.

Police say the man became aggressive when they tried to speak with him.

OC spray and a Taser were used on the man during a struggle with officers, before he fell unconscious.

First aid was given to the man at the scene before he was taken to Gunnedah Hospital where he died a short time later.

A female officer was also taken to hospital where she’s being treated for a bite wound to her right arm and an injured left knee.

A critical incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will investigate the incident.

The investigation will also be independently reviewed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
