Police are investigating after fire broke out in the kitchen of the Anchors Wharf Cafe and Restaurant in Urunga last night.
Residents reported hearing a loud bang and emergency services were called to the Bellingen Street property at around 6.30pm to find the cafe well alight.
Fire and Rescue crews quickly extinguished the blaze.
The damage bill is expected to be more than $250,000.
A crime scene has been established and police are looking for anyone with information to come forward.
