NORTH WEST FISHERS TO REAP REWARDS OF 1,200 RAINBOW TROUT RELEASE

Anglers across the north-west will now have the chance to catch one of more than 1,000 tagged Rainbow trout.

The fish, which were bred at Ebor’s trout hatchery, were released into Malpas and Dumaresq Dams this morning.

Once caught, fishermen are asked to report on the location, size and movement of the fish on the Department of Primary Industries’ website.

It’s all part of a State Government initiative to monitor and improve the survival rates of native fish.

“It’s great to see more fish being released for our recreational fishers but also for the health of our river system and the health of our dams, like Malpas Dam here today.”

After entering the data, anglers will be rewarded with a prize for their efforts.
