MURAL CELEBRATING HUNTER WORLD WAR TWO VETERAN

One of the country’s oldest surviving veterans has been honoured, just days out from his 104th birthday.

Alf Carpenter has been recognised for his service during World War Two, with the creation of a mural at Hamilton’s Gallipoli Legions Club.

“I think it’s wonderful what they’ve managed to do and they got a complete impression of my nose and eyes and I thought that was very well indeed.”

“He’d have a big week of celebrations with his birthday and ANZAC every year but I think this year is going to be a good year with all the restrictions lifting he can spend more time with his family and mates which is really important.”

Starting with a ball the club is holding this Saturday, raising money for Disaster Relief Australia, to help flood-affected communities on the mid north coast.
