HUNTER NEW ENGLAND HEALTH RELEASES FLOOD SAFETY TIPS

Hunter New England Health is urging residents in flood-affected areas to spare a thought for their health during the clean-up.

Floodwater can contaminate foods and medicines, making them unsafe to consume.

Meanwhile, residents are also advised to keep an eye out for damage to electrical appliances and take extra care when treating wounds.

“Any areas of the skin that are either abraded or have cuts on them can be easily infected by contaminated floodwaters. And so, it’s critical to use the safety equipment, the gloves or boots, but also to make sure you clean those areas thoroughly.”

More tips can be found on the Hunter New England Health website.
