OFFICER ASSAULTED WHILE ARRESTING WANTED MAN ON MID NORTH COAST

A male senior constable has suffered serious lacerations to his face, arm and body while arresting a wanted man in Coffs Harbour yesterday.

Police were patrolling the Pacific Highway, when they saw a man who was wanted on outstanding warrants near the Argyll Street intersection.

The 33-year-old ran from police but was eventually apprehended by the senior constable.

The wanted man resisted, and both men hit a nearby parked car, shattering the window.

Other officers assisted and arrested the 33-year-old.

He was treated at the scene for cuts to his feet, before being taken to hospital under police guard.

Once released, he was charged with break and enter house, etc steal value under or equal to $60,000, two counts of break and enter dwelling with intent (steal) and drive whilst disqualified.

He was refused bail and will appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court today.

The senior constable was treated for his injuries and taken to hospital in a stable condition.
