FLOOD WARNINGS CONTINUE AND A THANKS TO SES VOLUNTEERS

Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Minister David Elliott and Commissioner Carlene York have addressed the state, providing an update on the extreme flooding event.

Residents in the Mid North Coast, Hunter and Central Coast were at the forefront of the warnings, and are reminded to be on “high alert” and to “stock up and stay at home” with rain expected to continue.

Premier Berejiklian stresses that “New South Wales is in the midst of an extreme weather event and we know already that we’ve had literally hundreds of people who’ve had to evacuate.”

“This will be a deep seeded extreme weather event. It’s unlikely the rain will stop until towards the end of next week” she says.

With New South Wales SES volunteers having attended 500 flood related rescues so far, Minister Elliot is adamant residents must watch the warnings and do the right thing.

“We can’t control the weather, but we can control our behaviour,” he says.

Most importantly “do not drive through flood waters”.

Commissioner York’s main message was to “please be patient…we are giving priority to those life threatening calls first.”

She addressed the websites that can be visited to stay on top of flood related news, including the Bureau of Meteorology, Live Traffic and NSW SES.

All three speakers thanked the SES volunteers who have risked their lives so far to assist those in need.
