Remediation works will begin on Tamworth’s BMX track by mid-year.
The Marius Street site hasn’t been in use since this time last year, when asbestos was detected.
Tamworth Regional Council is working alongside the state’s Environment Protection Authority to remove contaminated materials.
It will also undertake a full upgrade of the existing track to make it suitable for hosting state and national events.
The works are being funded under the government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
