WOMAN RESCUED AFTER FALLING 7 METRES IN NEWCASTLE

Emergency services have rescued a woman who fell seven metres and landed on an awning in Hunter Street.

The incident occurred around 8’oclock this morning.

The intersection of Hunter and Darby Streets was shut down for an hour and a tram was stopped to give paramedics, firefighters and police time to extricate the woman.

Fire and Rescue used a cherry-picker to get her down from the awning to a waiting ambulance.

She was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

The road has since been opened and trams have returned to their normal timetable.

Police are investigating.
