ALMOST 6 TONNES OF RUBBISH COLLECTED AT LAKE MACQUARIE

It was all hands on deck across Lake Macquarie this morning, for Clean Up Australia Day.

Volunteers helped collect almost six tonnes of rubbish across 72 locations in the region.

“It’s not as bad actually as what it has been in the past, obviously there’s some beer bottles, and things like that and plastic water bottles.” – Cr. Kay Fraser, Lake Macquarie Mayor.

The rubbish collected today will be examined to help drive down littering across the region.

“So that they can get an idea of the types of litter that are coming, if it’s increasing or decreasing, the type of waste that’s going in to the community.” – Christine Aus, Greater Charlestown Sustainable Neighbourhood Group.
