INCREASE IN MICE CAUSING TROUBLE FOR FARMERS

Rodents are on the rise across farms in New South Wales and it’s not a pleasant site.

Reports from farmers suggest there has been an influx of mice since heavy rainfall stopped.

They have been a pest particularly on farms and in country homes in the Upper Hunter and New England.

Farmers are struggling to control the extent of breeding and say the mouse traps they are using just aren’t enough.

Apart from eating crops, the mice have also destroyed appliances and insulation material.

Merriwa locals have banded together, sharing photographs and stories of mice spotted in their homes.

Even birds have chimed in, feasting on mice they can catch.

Farmers are encouraged to continue reporting on the state of the mice in the hope the ‘carpets’ will die down soon.
