PORT STEPHENS BEACHES CLOSED DUE TO SEWAGE LEAK IN HARBOUR

Port Stephens Council is advising people to avoid swimming at beaches from from Nelson Bay marina to Fly Point today, due to a sewage leak.

A sewage main was damaged at Teramby Road, Nelson Bay this morning during excavation works, and it began leaking into the harbour.
Hunter Water say they’re working to repair the damaged sewage main, and the leak is contained to the harbour area.
The NSW Environment Protection Authority, SafeWork NSW and Fire & Rescue NSW have also been told about the incident.
Affected beaches, including the marina and SPLASH Waterpark have been closed as a precaution.
