TWO CARS CRASH INTO TWEED VALLEY CANE DRAIN

Two drivers were rushed to hospital today, after their cars collided at Chinderah and careered into a cane field drain on Tweed Valley Way.

The Tweed District Rescue Squad was called to the scene around 12:45pm to find the female driver of the red sedan trapped in her car.

Rescue crews quickly worked to stabilise both vehicles using stabfast stabilisation struts, slings, and a winch.

The female driver was then carefully manoeuvred through the front windscreen onto a stokes litter.

Both drivers were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

NSW Fire and Rescue and the Rural Fire Service worked to ensure spilled fluids from the vehicles were contained.

While, NSW Police closed the road and began investigating the crash.

Tweed District Rescue Squad say one of its members will be cleaning oil and mud from her overalls for days to come, but are thankful they got everyone out safely.
