ARMIDALE MAN CHARGED AFTER MULTIPLE NEW YEAR’S EVE PURSUITS

An Armidale man has been charged following a number of pursuits in Port Macquarie on New Year’s Eve.

Police allegedly tried to stop the 23-year-old, who was driving a silver BMW Sedan, at the Lighthouse Plaza Shopping Centre Carpark about 5.20pm.

Shortly after police initiated a pursuit on Ocean Drive, and then were forced to pull back.

The second pursuit continued down the Oxley Highway, before coming to a fiery end.

Stopping near the intersection of the Oxley and Pacific Highway, the BMW caught on fire and was quickly engulfed in flames.

The driver allegedly tried to run off, but police quickly caught up and arrested him at the scene.

He was charged for a string of offenses, including driving recklessly, speeding and breaching bail.

He fronted Port Macquarie Local Court yesterday.
