POLICE SEEK INFORMATION AFTER ASSAULT AT POPULAR NELSON BAY BEACH

Detectives are calling on the community to come forward with any information following the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in Port Stephens nearly two years ago.

Police say an 11-year-old girl was at Dutchmans Beach Reserve in Nelson Bay at the beginning of last year when she was approached by an unknown man, who took her into nearby bushes and sexually assaulted her.

It’s believed the incident happened between 11am and late in the afternoon, on Sunday 27 January 2019.

The man is believed to have been wearing a black top at the time, aged in his 60s or 70s, with an olive complexion, grey hair below his ears and a moustache.

The State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is asking for anyone with photographs, video recordings or dashcam footage from Dutchmans Beach Reserve on that day to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

“Anyone who has information about the incident is urged to come forward immediately,” said a NSW Police spokesperson.

“Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. People should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.”
