NEWCASTLE FIREFIGHTERS KEPT BUSY

Firefighters in Newcastle have been kept busy, when an abandoned home in Jesmond went up in flames.

Crews worked for around three hours last night to bring the blaze under control, no one was injured.

Meantime, a quiet street in Adamstown was blocked off for several hours this morning, after a fire broke out in a single storey home.

Firefighters rushed to Fletcher Street just after 9 o’clock, the blaze was brought under control shortly after.

“It’s a timely reminder to say to everybody to check their powerpoints, to make sure they don’t double plug or piggyback powerpoints into powerboards, and be very wary to check those Christmas lights that they’re not frayed or damaged.”

Thankfully the elderly residents weren’t home at the time.
