DUYFKEN REPLICA SHIP LEAVES PORT OF NEWCASTLE

Part of Australia’s maritime history has left the Port of Newcastle, bound for the National Maritime Museum in Sydney.

Built in Western Australia, the ‘Duyfken’ is a replica of the first sailing ship, that reached Australian shores.

Newcastle’s famous replica ship ‘William the Fourth’ gave it a final send off.

“It was difficult for them with the COVID rules, to sail the ship around, so they hitched a ride with one of the other cargo vessels coming around, and Newcastle was the available port for them to unload and re-rig with all their sailing.” – Bob Cook, Newcastle Maritime Museum.
