MEN ALLEGEDLY CAUGHT WITH 85 KILOS OF CANNABIS IN TRUCK

Police have charged two men after allegedly finding 85 kilograms of cannabis in the back of a Pantech truck near Byron Bay.

Officers stopped the vehicle at around 11.25pm on the Pacific Highway at Ewingsdale for a traffic offence.

After speaking with the 23-year-old driver and his 24-year-old passenger, police became suspicious and searched the rear of the truck.

They allegedly found 186 packages of cannabis.

The men were arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station, where they were charged with supplying a prohibited drug greater than commercial quantity, and drug possession.

They were refused bail, to appear in Ballina Local Court today.
