A 60-year-old man has been arrested over a suspicious package that was found near the RAAF Base at Williamtown yesterday.
Emergency services were called to Medowie Road just before 2pm, and set up a police operation, closing a stretch of the road soon after.
Just after 4pm, the scene was declared safe, and Medowie Road was re-opened.
The man was arrested at a home in Lake Macquarie this morning.
He was charged with leaving a substance and creating a false belief of danger.
The 60-year-old will face Raymond Terrace Local Court later this month.
Police investigations are continuing.
