FRIABLE ASBESTOS FOUND AT NEWCASTLE SCHOOL

Fragments of friable asbestos have been found at St Therese’s Primary School in New Lambton.

The pieces were found in soil after recent construction on school grounds.

“What I asked for with Newcastle East, was for all asbestos to be removed. The government, to their credit, actually commtited to that, getting rid of all asbestos by the end of this year, so I’d like to see that in all schools in Newcastle.” – Tim Crakanthorp, Member for Newcastle.

It’s expected the asbestos will be removed by the end of the school holidays.
