MAN KILLED IN SHARK ATTACK IDENTIFIED AS FORMER HUNTER RESIDENT

The surfer killed by a shark on the Gold Coast on Tuesday afternoon has been identified as former Hunter resident Nick Slater.

Mr Slater was dragged from the water with serious leg injuries and rushed to hospital by emergency crews but could not be saved.

The 46-year-old real estate agent grew up in the Hunter and attended Toronto High School.

Newcastle band ‘The Fools’, took to Facebook to post a touching tribute to a ‘mate’.

‘To all that surfed, worked, lived, and partied with Nick over the years, please take some time today to reflect on his life and the great times we shared with him.’

Beachgoers on the Gold Coast have been advised to stay out of the water until the shark is found.

Beaches remain closed from the NSW border to Burleigh Heads.

Mr Slater’s death is the second fatal shark attack in Queensland in two months.
