LUCKY PILOT ESCAPES HARM AFTER PLANE CRASHES OFF GUNNEDAH RUNWAY

A pilot is lucky to have escaped serious harm after a plane taking off at Gunnedah Airport crashed into grass this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the facility shortly before 2pm.

It’s understood the plane hit a pile of roadworks on the runway before toppling onto its wing and leaking fuel.

Gunnedah Airport was closed for a short period as HAZMAT teams worked to clear the spillage.

No one was hurt in the incident.
