SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FOR EAST COAST

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the Hunter, Central Coast and Mid North Coast today.

Damaging winds up to 70 kilometres an hour are expected in the Hunter, with gusts over 90 kilometres an hour.

Those winds are expected to affect the Mid North Coast this afternoon.

Hazardous surf is also forecast, with waves higher than 5 metres predicted in the surf zone.

The large swell could lead to significant beach erosion along the Illawarra, Sydney and Hunter coasts.

The public is advised to stay well away from the surf and exposed areas.

The State Emergency Service is urging people to move vehicles under cover and away from trees, secure loose items around the house, and monitor conditions if you’re heading out on the road.
