MAN AND WOMAN CHARGED OVER POLICE PURSUIT

A man and a woman from Queensland have been charged after allegedly ramming two police vehicles on the Far North Coast yesterday.

Just before 2pm, police we’re told about a stolen Holden Colorado utility travelling south on the Pacific Highway near the border, from Queensland to New South Wales.

Police noticed the stolen ute near the Kennedy Drive on-ramp at Tweed Heads and started a pursuit, but it was terminated soon after.

At 2.15pm, officers found the stolen car in an underground car park at Tweed Heads.

They parked two highway patrol vehicles in a driveway on Thomson Street, and walked over to the Holden.

The ute drove towards one of the officers, before hitting one of the unoccupied police vehicles.

It’s alleged the driver reversed the Holden and rammed the second unoccupied vehicle, leaving both cars significantly damaged, before driving away.

The Holden was later found unoccupied on Island Drive.

Police searched the area, but couldn’t find anyone involved with the incident.

After inquiries, the passenger, an 18-year-old woman, was arrested on Florene Street in Tweed Heads at 6.30pm.

She was later charged at Tweed Heads Police Station.

Just before 11pm, the driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested at a Tweeds Head hospital.

The Mackay man was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with a string of offences.

The pair were refused bail to appear at Lismore Bail Court today.
