HUNTER CLUB ADDRESSES SENATE INQUIRY INTO SPORTS RORTS SAGA

The director of a Hunter football club has described how his disappointment turned to anger, when he realised they were caught up in the sports rorts scandal.

He’s given evidence at a Senate inquiry in Canberra, after Newcastle Olympic’s funding application for a grandstand upgrade was rejected.

It was seeking $500,000 with a view to hosting teams for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

“Our fear here is that in three years’ time when we get women from all around the world coming to our ground to train, they’re going to see a bulldozed piece of land and we might have to put up a tent as dressing sheds. I mean, it really is at that level.”

The Coalition has been accused of only funding projects in marginal seats.
