OFFICERS INJURED DURING TAMWORTH ARREST

Two senior constables are recovering after they were injured during an arrest in Tamworth on Monday.

Around 8am, concerned residents called police to Armidale Road at East Tamworth where officers spoke with a 17-year-old boy.

The teenager allegedly became agitated when officers told him an ambulance was on its way to assess him and he tried to run away.

He is accused of pushing the police officers multiple times, before they fell to the ground trying to restrain him.

One officer fractured their arm during the scuffle, while the other strained their back.

When paramedics arrived, the boy ran across Armidale Road in front of oncoming traffic and police chased after him.

He was eventually taken to Tamworth Base Hospital where he was assessed before being taken to Tamworth Police Station.

He is due to appear in a children’s court in August, charged with resisting arrest and assaulting officers.
