A hitchhiking echidna is lucky to be alive, after a harrowing 10 kilometre car ride stuck on the vehicle’s engine.
The adult male mammal suffered burns to its spines during the journey from Lennox Head to Ballina.
Northern Rivers Wildlife Carers is urging the community to keep an eye out for echidna’s as they enter their breeding season.
