Disgraced former Swansea MP, Milton Orkopoulos, has been charged with 15 historical sex offences.
The charges relate to allegations of historical sexual and indecent assaults against two young boys in the 1990s.
Police allege Orkopoulos assaulted the boys on separate occasions in the Lake Macquarie region and on the Mid North Coast.
The charges include five counts of aggravated indecent assault with a child under the age of 16, five counts of aggravated sexual assault with a child under the age of 16 and three counts of cause child under 14 to participate in child prostitution.
Lake Macquarie police began investigating the former New South Wales Labor minister after an alleged victim came forward.
The 62-year-old is already behind bars for violating his parole in February.
Detectives made the trip to Sydney’s Silverwater jail this morning to charge Mr Orkopoulos.
He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court tomorrow via video link.
Police will provide an update on the investigation this afternoon.
