‘STRAWBERRY MOON’ EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND

Aussie star gazers are in for a treat this Saturday, with predictions of a ‘Strawberry Moon’ in our skies.
The phenomenon gets its name from the ripening of the fruit during the northern summer, but it’s otherwise known as a penumbral lunar eclipse.
It occurs when the sun, earth and moon are imperfectly aligned, so that the earth blocks some of the sun’s light from reaching the surface of the moon.
The Strawberry Moon marks the start of the eclipse season.
