CENTRAL COAST HOSPICE PUSH CONTINUES AMID PANDEMIC

The push for a standalone hospice on the Central Coast has been delayed by the pandemic.

But proponents of a facility known as Elsie’s Retreat say the crisis has pushed the issue into the spotlight, arguing those nearing their end of life are worried they may get sicker, without a specialised facility.”

It’s important people can bypass accident and emergency if they just need to go and speak to somebody about their medication, if they just need a few days to get their medication right, they can come into the hospice,” Elsie’s Retreat Committee member Oana McBride said.

“They can still go home.”

Central Coast Local Health District says it’s offering support to those needing care out of hours, and two new palliative care nurses are currently being recruited.

News welcomed by the Elsie’s Retreat Committee.
