SHIPPING CONTAINERS AND SURGICAL MASKS WASH ASHORE ON THE CENTRAL COAST

Shipping containers and dozens of surgical face masks have washed ashore on the Central Coast, scattered from Magenta Beach to North Entrance.

They’re believed to have come from a cargo ship which lost its load south east of Sydney.

More than 100 containers were badly damaged or fell when the APL England hit rough conditions on Sunday.

Dozens of containers continue to dangle dangerously from the ship.

Authorities have boarded the vessel to begin investigating.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has’t yet confirmed exactly what was in a number of shipping containers that fell overboard, but says the containers are unlikely to have contained any dangerous goods.

The ship is scheduled to dock in Brisbane where a full inventory will be carried out.
