RUTHERFORD WOMAN FINED $4000 AFTER ILLEGALLY DUMPING RUBBISH

A Rutherford woman has been fined after dumping household waste at Melville Ford, near Maitland.

The Regional Illegal Dumping Squad investigated the matter after two dumps, including a kettle, kids’ toys, used milk cartons and cardboard boxes, were found in the area.

The 25-year-old was fined $4000 and made to clean up the waste, and take it to a lawful waste facility.

Hunter-Central Coast Regional Illegal Dumping Squad Coordinator Rob Robertson, said, “We know the majority of people do the right thing when it comes to disposing their waste. The message is, if you choose to illegally dump your waste, we have a highly experienced team whose focus is to catch you. Fines start at $2000, so consider your options and make the smart choice.”

The use of surveillance cameras to detect illegal dumping offenders has increased in the Lake Macquarie, Cessnock and Central Coast areas resulting in the issuing of several large fines.

The program between local councils and the NSW Environment Protection Authority, is funded by the Waste Levy.
