CONTACTLESS BORROWING UNVEILED AT CESSNOCK LIBRARY

Bookworms in Cessnock can now access their local library collection, with council unveiling an new ‘Call and Collect’ borrowing service at Cessnock and Kurri Kurri libraries.

The new initiative, which allows for contactless borrowing of the books, magazines, films and CDs, is subject to a rigorous sanitation regime to ensure public safety.

To reserve items, residents simply phone their local library.

Staff will then sanitise their desired items before bundling them up, ready for pick-up.

Locals then organise a time to drop in and collect their bundle with their own library bag.

Once the reader is finished with their books, they can be returned through the chute at the library.

The items will then be quarantined for 5 days before being returned to the collection.

Cessnock City Mayor, Cr Bob Pynset, said the initiative will help locals bust boredom during long days at home.

“People are spending so much more time at home at the moment, which is a great opportunity to read more books”

“Our libraries are making it easy for people to do so.”

The initiative is only available for library members, to sign up visit libraries.cessnock@nsw.gov.au
