Nurses across the world are being recognised for their life-saving efforts on what is International Nurses Day.

There are more than 8,000 working in the Hunter New England health district alone.

Newcastle’s Calvary Mater Hospital, which has more than 600 nurses, uploaded a post to social media thanking them for their bravery during the pandemic.

The post stating “Today we celebrate you, your care and compassion, your skills and knowledge, your professionalism, your true grit, your spirit and kindness, your smile.”

“Now, like never before, you are nursing the world to health.”
