LICENCE GRANTED TO OPEN LAKE CATHIE IN EVENT OF FLOODING

Crown lands has fast tracked the approval of a conditional licence to open Lake Cathie.

Council is expecting to be in a possible position to open the lake as early as this week.

At last weeks Port Macquarie-Hastings council meeting, mayor Peta Pinson pushed for a licence following months of public outcry.

Pinson last pushed for the licence in November last year.

However, the licence was denied after Crown lands indicated to council its lake data was more than two decades old and required updating.

This month, the mayor made another push following public outcry.

The lake has gone from being empty to flooding in a few months.

The height of the lake as of May 11 was 1.568m.
