Police are investigating a fatal head-on collision in the Hunter this morning, which killed a man in his 30s from Gilleston Heights.
Emergency services were called to Cessnock Road at Maitland just before 8am, after reports of a collision between a truck and a car.
Several members of the public stopped to give first aid and CPR to one of the men, who was found unconscious inside his car, before paramedics arrived.
The yet to be identified man, who was the only person the car, was taken to the John Hunter Hospital, but was unable to be saved.
The driver of the truck was not injured, and has been taken to Maitland hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been set up, as diversions were put in place, and drivers are advised to avoid the area or delay travel.
