WANTED MAN ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING OFFICER

A man who allegedly set off a marine flare near an officer while attempting to avoid arrest has been charged.

About 7.25pm (Thursday 2 April 2020), officers from Mid North Coast Police District attended a property at Comboyne, about 60km south-west of Port Macquarie, in relation to a man wanted on outstanding warrants.

Police allege a 25-year-old man was found hiding under a bed in a caravan, and allegedly set off a marine flare near the face of an officer.

When the flare filled the caravan with smoke the man fled on foot into nearby bushland.

He was arrested with the assistance from the Dog Unit a short time later.

The man has been charged with use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, possess explosive/gunpowder to enable another to injure, assault officer in execution of duty and, resist officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail and appeared before Port Macquarie Local Court today (Friday 3 April 2020).
