On Monday Ballina Shire Council is launching a delivery service which will provide the essentials to the general community.
Businesses across the shire are being encouraged to opt in to the service by contacting council on a dedicated hotline (1300 864 444).
“The aim of it is to keep people in their homes particularly the elderly and our most vulnerable,” Cr Sharon Cadwallader said.
Any business can join the program, although so far it’s mostly been small supermarkets and pharmacies.
Council has partnered with local taxis to ensure there is a flat delivery fee.
