UNLICENSED DRIVER CHARGED FOLLOWING DEATH OF PREGNANT WOMAN

A woman has been charged over a crash which killed a pregnant passenger in the state’s north earlier this week.

Just before 10.30pm on Sunday, emergency services were called to Warialda Road at Inverell, after reports a Holden Commodore had crashed into a pole after colliding with a Mazda Bravo.

Following inquiries, the 22 year-old Tingha woman was charged with eight offences.

Driving the Holden unlicensed, the woman and her 20-year-old pregnant passenger were seriously injured.

Despite paramedics’ best efforts, the passenger, who was 32 weeks pregnant, died at the scene.

Her baby also died.

The woman appeared before Tamworth Local Court on Tuesday, where she was formally refused bail to reappear before the same court on next week.
