IN-PRINCIPLE SETTLEMENT REACHED OVER PFAS CONTAMINATION

The federal government has reached an in-principle agreement to settle three class action cases concerning PFAS contamination in Williamtown, Katherine and Oakey.

This represents a significant milestone for Williamtown residents, who had been seeking compensation for the loss of property values related to the contamination and who were preparing to take their fight to federal court in April.

It comes after just two days of mediation.

Minister for Defence, Linda Reynolds, says the parties “are in the process of finalising detailed terms of the settlement.”

Those terms will remain confidential.

Member for Port Stephens, Kate Washington, says the settlement “will allow these heartbroken families to get on with their lives, at long last.”
